A Dream of a Ridiculous Redhead

Hi, I’m Candace.

Since I was young, I’ve wondered why people do what they do. How should we live and relate to others? Why do people believe what they believe? Does human life have purpose? And if so, how would we know? What are values, and how does consciousness work?

As a philosophy doctoral student, I find it most fascinating how the compulsion to operationalize behavior so precisely can lead to reducing even suffering to a data point. At the same time, the question of what kind of life we are supporting, or what it means to flourish, remains unasked.

I’m a single mom to three amazing red-head kids, a Registered Behavioral Technician serving individuals with autism, and a PhD student at the University of North Texas’ Philosophy and Religion department. My research focuses on the philosophical foundations of epistemologically knowing what is.

Old Stories Stand the Test of Time…

…because, well, death! Old books ask what it means to live well and how to love with your whole being. As a recovering fearful avoidant, I’ll always be a hopeless romantic. I’m pretty sure that Diotima and Socrates had a lifelong love affair, and Plato purposefully destroyed his theory of eternal forms with Diotima’s philosophy of love. One day, I’ll write their love story. Stay tuned.
