A Dream of a Ridiculous Redhead

Hi, I’m Candace.

I’ve always been fascinated with human knowledge and behavior. Questions like these swirl around my mind: How should we live in relation to the earth and to other beings? Is Truth a thing? Does human life have purpose? And if so how would we know? What are beliefs, values, and how does consciousness work?

As a philosophy doctoral student, what I find most fascinating is the compulsion to operationalize behavior so precisely that even suffering could be reduced to a data point. At the same time, the question of what kind of life we are supporting, or what it means to flourish, remains unasked.

I’m a single mom to three amazing red-head kids, a Registered Behavioral Technician serving individuals with autism, and a PhD student at the University of North Texas. My research focuses on the philosophical foundations of epistemologically knowing what is.

Old Stories Stand the Test of Time…

…because, well, death of course! Old books ask what it means to live well and how to love with your whole being. As a recovering fearful avoidant, I’ll always be a hopeless romantic. I’m pretty sure that Diotima and Socrates had a lifelong love affair, and Plato purposefully destroyed his theory of eternal forms with Diotima’s philosophy of love. One day, maybe I’ll write their love story. Stay tuned.
